4/8/2007 Website DesignI now have a new blog I started which does a
much better job of representing the work I have been doing for the last
couple of years. I have really enjoyed posting on Hartwell.tv, but for
some reason the format hasn't lent itself well to to the "search
engines" and "web design" sections. I'm not sure why, but my creative
flow never got established here. The fishing section did really well,
until I started nolaspearfishing.com and started putting all of my blog
posts there. The New Orleans Saints section is doing great, and I plan
on continuing that, maybe even one day moving it to a blog of its own.
I'm really excited about the new blog I started though, and I hope
you'll take the time to check it out if you're at all interested in
internet marketing.
New
Orleans Internet Marketing is going to be a wealth of resources for
people new to internet marketing, sem, and seo. Regular Harwtell.tv
visitors will surely recognize the familiar image at the top - where is
it from? There may be a contest soon to see who can find out...

I got this cool domain name today:
Metairie.LA
I probably will never do anything with it, but it would be great for
a local business directory. Type it in! It's for sale!

Glad to announce that I will once again be
designing websites for a reputable, local design company. Starting on
April 24, 2006. I will be working for an established local firm that
does many New Orleans hospitality industry websites, and seeks to
portray the positive aspects of the City of New Orleans.

It's been a long time since I've designed any
new websites. I really enjoy the full time social work job I took. I
loved being a designer too, but self employment doesn't lend itself to
family life like a secure hospital job with health and retirement
benefits.

I need a break. I can't do it. I can't design
another website. Time off here I come. Most recent triumph:
Financial Risk
Mitigation, Inc.

Web Design | Background
For those of you that don't know me, I started designing websites during
undergrad at UNO (University
of New Orleans). My parents had bought a cheap computer for around
the house, mainly for my sister and I to do schoolwork on. We had
America Online (what a nightmare), and I thought it was the greatest
thing in the world. I was always pretty creative, a musician and
aspiring graphic artist (while in school for Psychology), so I started
messing around with one of the first WYSIWYG html editors called AOLPress.
It was horrible; but that, along with a few books on html gave me the
confidence to make my first website proposal.
My family's business, Snee Chemical Company, needed a website, and my
dad got a quote from some sales guy at New Orleans.Com for around $2000
(this was in like '96 or '97 I think). And I couldn't believe the price
they were charging. So my initial proposal was something like, "Dad, um,
I think I can do that for you; just pay me minimum wage."
So there I sat, designing my first website for minimum wage with
dreams of one day being a top-notch web designer, waking up and going to
work in my pajamas, at my home - office. The perfect job for a slacker
with creative impulses.
It wasn't until the Fall of 2002 when I started graduate school at
Tulane, that I decided to start my own business. I went out on a limb (a
very small and sturdy limb...I think), and started
Independent Layout &
Website Design with some left over student loan money. I dressed up
nice and handed out sales flyers to small business all over New Orleans
to get my first jobs. That's how I got my first customers, and I still
have good relationships with all of them. I owe those guys big time for
giving me the opportunity to do their work.
So that's how I got started, by designing professional, affordable
websites for small businesses. My pricing has gone up significantly over
the past few years, but the services I'm capable of providing now are
much more valuable. I started learning Search Engine Optimization in
2002, and have seen much success ever since. My website has been #1 for
"New Orleans Website Design" on Google for years now, and I have many
sites with top rankings for competitive keywords. I have the ability to
give small businesses a worldwide presence on the internet through
search. I also have experience with managing pay-per-click campaigns and
other forms of internet marketing. The thing that remains constant is
that no matter what I charge for new websites, my clients ALWAYS get
their money's worth.
Thank you, New Orleans, for giving me the opportunity to promote your
businesses.

I'm really excited right now about two new web sites I'm
putting together. One is
Louisiana
Addiction Resources - it's a professional project for Tulane School
of Social Work. It's still very much under construction, but is set to
be the definitive guide to treatment resources available in our state,
as well as a guide for non-profits to design websites with search engine
accessibility in mind.
The second web site is Pond
& Water Garden Resources. It's an SEO project for
Aquascape
Designs Inc. This site is going to be the number one search result
for "ponds" and "water gardens" as well as a statewide directory of
ADI's Certified Aquascape Contractors. Wait until the final files get
uploaded. This website is an SEO work of art!

Note to self: Next time you send out letters to clients
announcing price increases. Go far away on vacation right after.

I love my job. Does it get any better than this?
